Before The Architect -

	Designs unique house plans, drafts unique house plans, reviews and repairs the house plans of others.
	Principals Ralph (a/k/a Autocad Granddad, AG) and Jean Pressel (a/k/a Mrs. AG, The Missus) have worked together, hands-on in house plans designing and building going on four decades both on their own and for hire. AG runs Autocad and house plans contents; Mrs. AG does serious designing, and keeps an eye on what AG's up to.
	Operates nationwide.
	Begins unique house plans with owner's stock plans or architects' or house designers' work product (explicitly released by authors for use by others) or with owners' own drawings by-hand or by store-bought software. Clients, very selectively chosen, are often professionals planning their dream homes. The firm's business platform is principally email-centric, permitting time for review, research, reflection, and reply.
	Has worked on properties in 28 states and the District of Columbia, in design, drafting, review, and repair from a few hundred square feet to just shy of 20,000 square feet in wide-ranging architectural styles, principally Traditional.

In its essence, what makes Before The Architect different from the others?

Before The Architect’s principals have been both designers and builders together for going on 4 decades.

You can see it in their house plans work –

	Respecting owners in attentively designing safety, durability, and convenience functions into owner-desirable forms *and*
	Respecting builders in builders’ own language, taking much of designing out of contractors’ hands, and directing them to their job of construction without a whole lot of wiggle-room.

You get house plans that go way past most common house plans standards in attention to - a) designing into plans the owners' needs and wants and b) drawing and writing into plans extraordinary detail and specification –

It takes an extra effort to minimize ignorance, unpleasant surprise, misunderstandings and, worst, attempt to defend against deceit. Before The Architect new house plans can run 30-50 sheets of text and drawings developed over the course of months and and can take roughly 400-600 hours. Note well that these are current range maximums experienced from time to time, and that the majority of our plan sets run shorter in length and time.

Common house plans standards are not especially informative or disclosive either to owners or builders, leaving others to design for you or surprising you about immediate decisions for which you're immediately unprepared.

You hire individuals who have spent most of two working lifetimes with house plans - designing, building, remodeling, repairing, consulting.

	Generally, Before The Architect’s principals used to give away house plans designs to assess other ways to build or rebuild, to reckon a potential investment’s viability, to do the work they’d designed, to get the job, to explain something or other to someone or other.
	Now Before The Architect’s principals design the house plans, letting younger and stronger backs dig and lug and do the heavy lifting.
