STAIRCASE DESIGN CAD DETAIL
IN ELEVATION
By Before The Architect Copyright 2008-2010
I am doing this because I’m told that I have to. (A/k/a slam, bam, thank you ma'am, it isn't as though I'd appreciate your work; I am a victim, I am, I am.) #5 of The 19 Deadly Sins. Before The Architect
Staircase design can all but rule a home design . . . not always, but don’t let down your guard. Once a draw matures, discovering and reworking a home design to fix a staircase design mistake can prove all but ruinous.
As a practical matter, Before The Architect gets staircases sited and sized as early in a CAD detail draw as possible.
Here’s an example of a staircase design of stair over stair in elevation, 3 level home CAD design detail of considerable complexity.
Different runs between the flights.
Different rises between the flights.
Different tread metrics between the flights.
Different riser metrics between the flights.
Staircases interior to the perimeters, making them in the middle of traffic patterns and spaces rather than less complexly (usually) alongside a perimeter wall or two.
A bar to fit ‘neath the L0-L1 landing.
